In-house pharmacy
Pick up your pet's prescriptions at our Woodbridge front desk before you leave. For refills, call or text us and we will check with the vet and let you know.
Picking up after your visit
When the vet prescribes a medication during an exam, it can often be filled right here before you head home. There is no extra stop on the way back through Woodbridge, and you can ask questions while your pet’s care is fresh in your mind. Before you leave, our team will go over how to give the medication, how much, and how often, and what to watch for.
To book an exam, call (703) 680-4646 or request an appointment.
Requesting a refill
If your pet takes a medication on an ongoing basis, you can ask for a refill by calling (703) 680-4646 or texting (571) 503-0242. Please include:
- Your name and your pet’s name
- The name of the medication, as it appears on the label
- How many doses your pet has left
The vet reviews each refill request before it is filled. Try to reach out a few days before you run out so there is time to review it. We will let you know when it is ready or if your pet needs to be seen first.
Why a current exam matters
A vet can only prescribe for a pet they have examined recently. This is not just a rule. Pets change over time. Weight goes up or down, kidneys and liver age, and new problems can appear. A medication that was right last year may need a change today.
For pets on long-term medication, the vet may also recommend lab work from our in-house laboratory to make sure the medication is still safe. Keeping up with your pet’s wellness exams helps refills go smoothly.
Giving medication safely
- Give each medication exactly as the label says.
- Finish the full course unless the vet tells you otherwise.
- Do not share one pet’s medication with another pet.
- Store all medications out of reach of pets and children.
Bring a list of current medications
At each visit, let us know everything your pet takes, including supplements, chews, and flea and tick products. Some products do not mix well with others, and a full list helps the vet choose safely. If your pet seems off after starting a new medication, such as vomiting, not eating, or acting very tired, call us so the vet can decide whether to make a change.
Never give human medications
If your pet has swallowed any human medication, call (703) 680-4646 right away. Many medicines that are safe for people are dangerous for dogs and cats, even in small amounts. Do not give your pet anything from your own medicine cabinet unless the vet tells you to. If the hospital is closed, see our after-hours emergency page.
Common questions
How do I request a refill?
Call (703) 680-4646 or send a text to (571) 503-0242 with your name, your pet's name, and the medication. We will let you know when it is ready to pick up.
How far ahead should I ask for a refill?
A few days before you run out is best. That gives the vet time to review the request.
Why does my pet need an exam to get a refill?
Vets can only prescribe for pets they have examined recently. A current exam helps make sure the medication is still the right choice.
Can I pick up my pet's medication the same day as the visit?
Often, yes. If the vet prescribes something during the exam, we can usually have it ready before you leave.
Which medications do you keep in stock?
It depends on what your pet needs. Call (703) 680-4646 and we can tell you about your pet's specific prescription.
Can I give my pet a medication from my own cabinet?
No, not unless the vet says it is safe. Many human medicines are harmful to dogs and cats, so always call first.
What if my pet ate some of my pills?
Call (703) 680-4646 right away. When we are closed, check our after-hours emergencies page for next steps.
