Common questions

What if I am not sure it is an emergency?

Call right away and describe what you see. During open hours call (703) 680-4646. When we are closed, call the 24-hour emergency hospital.

Can I text you in an emergency?

No. Please call so you reach a person right away.

Should I make my pet vomit?

Not unless a veterinarian or poison control tells you to. Some things cause more harm coming back up.

How do I move a hurt pet safely?

Move slowly and gently, because a pet in pain may bite. Put cats and small dogs in a carrier, and use a towel or blanket to support a larger dog.

Are you open overnight?

No. We are open Monday to Friday 8am to 8pm, and Saturday 9am to 2pm. We are closed Sunday and on holidays. At any other time, go to the nearest 24-hour emergency animal hospital.

Do poison hotlines charge a fee?

They may. Ask about the fee when you call, but do not let it delay getting help.
